Dear Readers,

My name is Reed, a 4th year Japanese major attending San Jose State University. As of September 11th 2006 I will be leaving the United States for 10 months to study abroad in Japan. I will be attending Waseda University as an exchange student, taking classes with other foreign exchange students to further our studies in Japanese language, culture, politics, etc. We will have the opportunity to join clubs on campus and mingle with other Japanese students. Like many of my fellow students, I will be staying with a host family. I believe that it is the experiences and time spent with the family and the connections made with other Japanese students that will be the most fun and prove to be most beneficial to my studies.

This blog has been created so that I can share my experiences and adventures with anyone who comes across this blog. Traveling to cities outside of Tokyo, visiting temples and monuments, trying different foods, seeing first hand the differences in Western and Eastern thinking, these experiences and much more will become the topics of this journal.

This is also a way for me to keep in touch with friends and family while away. Feel free to comment on any entry, just keep in mind that this is a public journal and others will be able to view your comments. Please keep them discreet and nothing too personal. If a comment or remark is inappropriate or irrelevant, it will be deleted. Thank you for your cooperation.
